  • Thank you, Bruce for this fun run. We gathered at Ace (Thomas) Hardware in Paradise, CA. Bruce planned this so we would go into Oroville, up to the Spillway from Lake Oroville. Not much water spilling, but several hiked down to the old railroad grade across from the lower end. It is awesome to see. We then went to the Lake Oroville Visitors Center above the lake & dam. Nice chat with the State employee at the Center.

We then went southerly to Oro-Quincy Highway at the Oaks store. I think the name has been changed. Shame on me. Turned left towards Berry Creek & turned onto Bald Rock Rd. to the Bald Rock Trail staging area. Several hiked out to the rocky area. When they returned we ate lunch. We continued northerly on Bald Rock Rd back to Oro-Quincy at Brush Creek, & another left turn westerly. We came to, I believe it was Stephens Ridge Rd at what is called Stanwood Saddle. A right turn took us into the French Creek area of the Plumas National Forest. There are several trails in this area for all types of Off-Hiway Vehicles (OHV).

The trail/road Bruce led us on was the westerly most, & had a few views of Lake Oroville, although we did not stop. We did stop at what is know as Coyote Gap, then continued down Four Trees Rd. not knowing if the gate near Highway 70 would be closed or not. Fortunately, it was open so we continued to 70, & another rest stop. Some one in the group started home, turned around toward Quincy, then came back by the few still stopped. The driver & passenger have been kidded about wrong way driving since. I will, however, not name names here. That may have been the trip that brought the idea of a ‘bell’ to someone in the group.

Thanks, again, Bruce.. Hope I didn’t make too many mistakes.
